Sumi-e is traditional Japanese art form from the 12th century originating from 5th century China. The practice is very meditative and involves lighting incense, proper brush techniques, and grinding of inkstones.
For Inktober 2025, I decided to grab a grindstone and learn how to create in this style as well, finding it a comfortable departure from my more meticulous works and falling into catching the essence of something in fewer strokes than I'm accustomed to.
