This is a collection of japanese ukiyo-e inspired paintings.
Included Works:
-Ramen (14x18in, Acrylic on canvas)
-Osaka Castle (12x24in, Acrylic on Canvas)
-Western Hamlet, Horyu Temple (Horyuji nishi sato) Master copy (11x14, Acrylic on Canvas)
These three works were all created trying to replicate the ukiyo-e style of Japan. While the original process is very intricate and looks different throughout the ages, the main points I took away was to paint solid colors or gradients one at a time in specific areas. I've been to Japan twice and of course, being in this generation, I took a picture of the food and one bowl I particularly loved inspired the first painting. It can go great in any kitchen to remind you to eat that oh so delicious ramen. The second painting was of Osaka Castle where I visited during my second visit. The castle sits in the "Kitchen of Japan" Osaka and always reminds me of just how amazing and different being on that side of the world was. The last painting is a master copy of Hasui, a famous Japanese ukiyo-e artist. To learn the techniques of some styles, I often times will paint a small study to understand how to approach emulating the techniques in a different medium. This is one such study.
